COVID-19 in Luhyaland

In contributing to the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, we have translated public safety measures to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus that causes the disease into various Luhya languages. See our  infographic in lubukusu on COVID-19 public health measures and common terms relating to the disease in Bukusu language. Find also commentary on how COVID-19 has disrupted Luhya culture redefining among other things what it means to be Luhya in these uncertain times. We also gleam insights from Luhya traditional knowledge on how to survive the pandemic. These include a Maragoli folktale on self-quarantine, a Bukusu proverb on picking up the pieces and a Bukusu proverb that highlights the importance of altruism in defeating COVID-19. Moreover, we also eulogize eminent sons and daughters of the soil who have succumbed to COVID-19 .
