What is Bukusu?

Bukusu is the largest sub-group of the Luhya people of western Kenya, with approximately 1.2 million speakers primarily in Bungoma and Trans-Nzoia counties. The Bukusu language belongs to the Bantu family and has the most developed written literature and digital documentation of any Luhya variety.

Where can I find the Bukusu-English dictionary?

The Mulembe Bukusu dictionary is searchable by English keyword or Bukusu word. It includes meanings, example sentences, proverbs, and audio recordings where available. It is a living resource built on community contributions and updated regularly.

How do I contribute to the dictionary?

If you speak Bukusu and want to contribute words, meanings, recordings, or corrections, email dictionary@mulembenation.co.ke. All contributions are credited unless you request anonymity. We also welcome corrections to existing entries.
