Mulembe Nation is looking for writers, data contributors, researchers, and community monitors across East Africa and the diaspora. We are building a platform, not just a publication, and the people who know this region best are the ones who should be shaping it.
Writers and reporters
We commission original reporting and analysis across all our verticals. We are particularly interested in writers who cover their home counties, cities, and communities with depth and sourcing we cannot get any other way. We pay for commissioned work.
We are looking for writers with expertise in: ward and county-level governance in Kenya; electoral processes in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and the DRC; East African business and capital markets; food systems and agriculture; sport journalism with data literacy; Bukusu, Luhya, and other Great Lakes languages and cultures.
Data contributors and community monitors
Our indices rely on people on the ground. If you regularly observe and can document budget execution at county or ward level, food market prices and availability, sport infrastructure or federation activity, place conditions, or cultural and linguistic knowledge from your community, we want to build a working relationship with you. Community data contributors are credited in our methodology documentation and paid for contributions that meet our verification standards.
Researchers and academics
We partner with researchers working on East African governance, economics, culture, and environment. If your research generates data that belongs in our indices, or if our data infrastructure would be useful to your research, contact us.
