A life trailblazing: Remembering Prof. Maurice Mang’oli
A pioneer in the profession of electrical engineering, a young Maurice Mang’oli marked his entry into the field by attaining First Class Honors in B.Sc. Electrical Engineering at the University Of Nairobi in 1977 (City Council Scholarship).
In 1979, he graduated with a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (UNESCO Scholarship).
His trailblazing journey in academia capped at Pennsylvania State University, U.S.A., between 1988 and 1992 when the late Mang’oli was a Fulbright Scholar studying for a Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering.
For 35 years, Prof. Mang’oli taught and mentored budding engineers at The University of Nairobi’s School of Engineering. Until his death, he was still living his passion by conducting online classes to his students.
Those among us here at mulembenation.co.ke who interacted with Prof. talk glowingly of a likable, humble, down to earth and accessible man. A man of the people, generous to a fault with his knowledge, networks and wisdom.

Lead by leaders Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula, Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga, Former Bumula MP Wakoli Bifwoli and CEC Dr. Antony Walela, Bungoma mourns.
Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati’s tribute
A seasoned teacher, a well-traveled scholar and an expert engineer who has his name and hand print on several building projects that have dotted Kenya’s capital Nairobi.
Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga’s tribute
Professor was so passionate about sowing literacy in his village. He is a man I held in high esteem and the Bumula pride list has a gap.
Dr. Antony Walela’s tribute to the late Prof. Maurice Mang’oli
I mourn the death of a friend from Covid 19. Prof Maurice Mangoli, a lecturer at University of Nairobi, Electrical Engineering was a down to earth, easy going man.
I knew him through the present Kimaeti MCA Jack Wambulwa, who was then known as Jack Makhanu in early the 90s. Jack was professor’s ‘errand boy’.
Prof. would be easily found at Bukusu drinking joints like Alaburma in Kenyatta market (Ngumo). He would be found there with Prof Vincent Simiyu (History), Engineer Wataka (Telkom), Prof Khalakayi(Mathematics), Dr Eseli (Paediatrician and now MP), Omuengele Cosmas Barasa(Treasury) and many top brains from Bungoma. They all mentored me in Nairobi.
When I joined Politics, Prof introduced me to the Myanga community, including the Catholic church and Secondary school. He was passionate about Kibabii TTC– diploma. We have lost a Gentleman to Covid 19. I mourn a top brain– Professor was best student in 1973 in Kenya.
RIP Simakulu.
Former Bumula MP Wakoli Bifwoli tribute to Prof. Mangoli
Deeply shocked to learn that my mentor and longtime friend has died.
Bungoma mourns
While in Bungoma the very jovial Prof. liked to patronize the iconic Highway Bar and Restaurant in Kanduyi for a quiet tipple and tête-à-tête with locals. Bungoma has once more lost a brilliant son to COVID-19, soon after the deaths of Tony Waswa Wetang’ula, Eng. Namiinda and Dr. Adisa Lugaliki. #StaySafe Bungoma.
