FULL TEXT: UDA National Elections Board on UDA Nominations

Good Morning,

Nominations kicked off all over the country as we had planned and the board can confirm that party members are voting in an atmosphere of peace.

Overnight, poll materials were delivered to various polling Centre’s across the country. We urge all aspirants and voters to be peaceful as the National Elections Board carries out the largest nominations exercise ever organized by a political party in the country.

Poll observers, including international organizations , have been granted full access to the polling stations and centres.

We are satisfied with the progress so far. Of the 35 counties where nominations are taking place, from Meru to Mombasa , from Kisii to Turkana, from Kirinyaga to Trans Nzoia, from lsiolo to Kajiado the primaries are going on as scheduled.

The board has noted a few challenges which are, however, being sorted out. In Bomet County, voting is going on well except for a minor incident where four out of the 582 polling centres were affected by destruction of voting materials. The matter is being sorted out.

In Kisii, the few cases of shortage of ballot boxes is being resolved.

Allegations of fake ballot papers are false and unfounded. The NEB challenges anyone with a pre-marked ballot paper to prove it. Ballot papers are serialized, secured with watermark features and cannot even be photocopied.

We are largely satisfied with the progress and the turnout of our members. We are in touch with our returning officers in all counties and constituencies and shall continue monitoring the exercise.

On the destruction of some poll mater ials in Embu yesterda y , the party’s disciplinary committee summoned three aspirants who will appear before the committee on Saturday.

UDA emphasizes that violence and other poll malpractices will not be tolerated.

Lastly, we have postponed nominations in Bumula, Turkana Central and Turkana East constituencies and they will be held on the 19th April, 2022. This affects the constituency and county assembly seats only.

The board also announces the postponement of nominations in Mt Elgen, Maiava, Likuyani and Lugari constituencies to tomorrow, 15th April, 2022. Again, this only affects the constituency and county assembly seats.

ANTHONY MWAURA

CHAIRMAN, UDA NATIONAL ELECTION BOARD
