Ford Kenya musical chairs: Ford Kenya SG Chris Wamalwa, Kiminini MP, accepts appointment as Wetang’ula moves to smoother Wangamati led party coup

Newly appointed Ford Kenya SG Chris Wamalwa tweets his acceptance as Wetang’ula moves to smoother the rebellion within.

The morning of Sunday 31st May 2020 will forever be etched in the history of the kutalang’i (lion) party of Kenya. It all begun with what some have termed a coup de grâce when Bungoma senator Moses Masika Wetang’ula was ousted as Ford Kenya party leader. The coup lieutenants were once his trusted yes-men: Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati, Kanduyi member of parliament Wafula Wamunyinyi, and Tongaren MP and party secretary general Hon. Dr Eseli Simiyu.

What has followed next is a game of musical chairs as each faction maneuvers to take control of the party of Masinde Muliro and George Kapten. See this acceptance tweet by newly appointed Ford Kenya SG Chris Wamalwa, one time minority whip in parliament and current Kiminini MP.

Chris Wamalwa acceptance speech as new Ford Kenya Secretary General

This afternoon, The FORD-Kenya National Executive Council meeting at the party headquarters, resolves to appoint me as Acting Secretary General.

With great humility, I accept the appointment. I pledge to work tirelessly to serve the party and promote it to even greater heights.

Our party is a party steeped in the liberation history of our country. It is the party of Masinde Muliro, Jaramogi Odinga, Micheal Wamalwa, George Kapten amongst other Titans of the second liberation.

FORD-Kenya has paid it’s debt in the democratization struggle through sweat, blood and tears of it’s members. This is a legacy that we must safeguard at all costs.

Our party has faced many challenges in it’s history from atidemocratic and dark forces. In it’s infancy the original FORD was splintered by the state. Yet we still survived emerging as the official opposition party in 1993 with MPs in all of the former 8 provinces. Later after the death of Jaramogi Odinga in 1994, we faced internal turmoil that led to a slit. Yet we survived and placed favorably in the 1997 elections. This performance paved way for the emergence of our leader, Hon. Micheal Wamalwa as the Vice President in the NARC government and our ascendance to the party of Government.

The current disturbances by miscreant elements fueled by dirty money pilfered from the citizenry shall also be defeated.

I urge all party members to remain calm as we sanitize the party of antidemocratic elements. In due course the troublemakers and their paymasters shall be exposed and shamed for all to see.

I thank you. God bless Kenya.

Hon. Chris Wamalwa, CBS,MP, Secretary General- FORD KENYA.
