On a day termed as historic, Jacaranda grounds in Nairobi’s Embakasi East constituency played host to the Azimio La Umoja aka Azimio – One Kenya brigade led by their newly coronated presidential candidate Raila Odinga, and formation patron President Uhuru Kenyatta. It is here, some minutes past 4 pm in the setting Nairobi sun that Raila Odinga launched his fifth stab at the presidency by laying down his 9 point agenda for Kenya.
In an colorful event graced by representatives from over 20 political parties, it was all systems go as the biggest catch, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka backtracked on his earlier stand to say Raila Odinga Tosha:
“Ndugu Raila Odinga tumetoka mbali. Tumekula teargas pamoja. Nimekuja kutangaza tutaendelea na mfumo Azimio – One Kenya Alliance na candidate wetu ni Raila Odinga. Nilidhani Raila atasema Kalonzo tosha, lakini kwa roho safi, nasema Raila tosha!”

Raila Odinga 9 agendas for Presidency
Talking himself up as jogoo wa mjini, city cock, who knows the in and outs of Kenya’s capital and the problems of ordinary Kenyans, Raila Odinga laid down agenda whose key differentiator was tailored social protectionist interventions for specific vulnerable groups in the county.
Uhuru legacy
Raila Odinga pledged that his government will endeavor to complete government projects initiated under Uhuru Kenyatta government.
Youth Agenda
There will be low interest loans for youth to start business. This loans will come with a seven year moratorium on repayment. Raila’s government will also establish a youth ministry to address the needs of youth.
Healthcare
Enter BabaCare, a health financing scheme that promises to bring to an end poverty brought about by ill health and hospital bills.
Housing
Affordable decent housing with security and sanitation services to realize the dream of home ownership for low income earners and end the shame of flying toilets in the country’s low income areas.
Agriculture
Raila Odinga’s government will come to the help of farmers in ways that include establishment of agro-processing plants for value addition of farm produce.
Manufacturing
The Azimio – One Kenya Alliance flagbearer pledged to establish industries that will provide employment for the youth.
Transport
Addressing a raw flesh point, Baba promised that his government will ensure Boda Boda riders are trained on road safety. The police will also be facilitated to bring order to the sector by discouraging hooliganism and applying the law to those found guilty of breaking the law.
Gender
Baba’s government will ensure women and women’s rights are respected. Further, single parent mothers will get financial support from his government.
Social protection program
Finally, fashioned on the American, European and Brazilian social protection model, the poor and vulnerable in Kenya will receive Ksh. 6000 monthly stipend form the government.
