Eight months ago we reported on progress of works on the only major highway that has been constructed in Mulembe land in the last decade. There had been signs of life in what must be one of Kenya’s longest running road construction projects as earth movers transformed the famous Chavakali – Kaimosi junction on the Kisumu- Kakamega- Webuye highway. What initially appeared as humongous roundabout is fleshing out as an overpass, complete with several underpasses, in what is promising to be a complete transformation of Chavakali town.

Other Related Road Works of Note
As part of the corporate social responsibilities by the constructor of the Kisumu-Kakakega-Webuye highway, China Overseas Construction Company (COVEC), and following successful talks with the County Government of Vihiga, the following works are under progress:
- Construction of service lanes at Mbale, Chavakali and Majengo
- Construction of ablution blocks, shoe shine booths and charcoal store in these major towns.
Service lanes can only mean one thing: enabling stopover for transient traffic. This might bode well for the commercial fortunes of these towns and the economy of the county as a whole. Moreover, every transformation of society comes with attendant risks. One that immediately comes to mind are the health risks attendant with human migration. Most notably, the spread of communicable diseases like HIV/Aids, H1N1 flu virus and even public health problems like bedbugs.
