Papa Shirandula was known for his starring role in Papa Shirandula, a long running popular Kenyan comedy TV show. Like most Kenyan TV and Film stars, Papa Shirandula horned his acting skills at the Kenya National Theater. Over the years, he grew in stature, becoming a brand with gravitas and in the process mentoring and serving as an inspiration to many young actors.

Papa brightened up the childhood of many Kenyans who grew up with his show. He was what the late Mzee Ojwang was to this generation: a legend whose on screen presence transcended the silver screen to touch each one of us.

Short illness

Papa Shirandula visited Karen hospital on Monday for a checkup after feeling unwell and returned home. He did not show any signs of illness until Saturday morning when he started having breathing complications. His brother in law Ronald Wanyama said the popular actor had tested positive for COVID-19. Papa had traveled back to Nairobi from Western Kenya on Sunday.

He collapsed and died at the parking of Karen hospital on Saturday the 18th July of 2020.

Our heartfelt condolences to family, friends, acting fraternity and the nation as a whole. Pole to Ingwe for losing a loyal fan and supporter.
