Meaning of the proverb
This Luhya proverb warns one not to pick unnecessary fights especially when they are in a place of weakness or not in a position to launch a proper offensive. It is a useful reminder to argumentative persons, those with mahangari as the Maragoli would say. Further, it is timely advice for one embarking on war reminding them that their enemy might have started the war because they perceive themselves to be at a position of strength. Therefore, if they fail to assess their enemy and the situation well, or underestimate them, they might just get crashed.
