Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) refers to the costs directly related to revenue. For products, this is simple: the cost of the product. For services other considerations such as employee hours that are connected to revenue are factored in when calcualting COGS. For technology busineeses such as Software As A Service SaaS, these costs directly related to building of the product are factored in COGS
