Meaning of the proverb

This Luhya proverb warns against entitlement. As the Swahili say mgeni leo mkaribishe, kesho mpe jembe alime. Simply, it is bad manners to take advantage of another’s kindness by placing demands left right and center once that person opens the door for you. Further, we should get too comfortable when living on the tab of another person. Rather we should show initiative and drive when helped taking only whatever help we needed at that time, nothing more, and not being greeedy by pushing boundaries.
