This, one of my favorite Kenyan pop hits, tells a story similar to the Ruto-Mudavadi political bromance; a much chided affair whose culmination was on Tuesday 27th September when President Ruto by way of appointment give mngwana, as he often called Mudavadi on the campaign trail, a new name: Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

The presence of (then they were rivals for the presidency) Musalia Mudavadi at the wedding of William Ruto’s daughter June Ruto to Alexander Ezenagu on Thursday 27 May 2021 left a trail of whispers of speculations on what could be cooking. It was at a time when being seen with then Deputy President Ruto was like canoodling with a leper. However, by the end of Mudavadi’s Presidential bid launch, The Earthquake, the whispers had turned into tremors and aftershocks that observers believe flattened everything standing in the way of Ruto’s presidency.

Then there was the little matter of 70% and Luhya’s habit of politics of nabutundu. There was history too – remember mademoni? All in all as President Ruto unveiled his first Cabinet, he proved that he too is a mngwana appointing Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi Kenya’s first Prime Cabinet Secretary.

Functions of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi

  1. Assist the President and Deputy President in the coordination and supervision of government ministries and state departments, in liaison with the ministry responsible for interior and national coordination to oversee the implementation of national government policies, programs and projects.
  2. Chair and coordinate national government legislative agendas across all ministries and state departments in consultation with and for transmission to the party coalition leadership in both the Senate and national assembly.
  3. Facilitate inter-ministerial coordination of cross-functional initiatives and programmes while supervising the technical monitoring and evaluation of government policies, programs and projects across all ministries.
  4. Any other functions as assigned by Dr. President Ruto.
