The Ministry of Health (MoH), Districts, and partners in Uganda are implementing several outbreak control interventions in Mubende and her surrounding districts to contain the disease spread. The following are five key messages from WHO for the public on Uganda Ebola Outbreak 2022 on what to do and what to know.

- People in the community should call an alert hotline or go to a health facility if they have symptoms (e.g., fever, headache, weakness, vomiting, bloody diarrhoea or urine, bleeding from body openings).
- Hotline numbers are: 0800200043 for Mubende and Kassanda; 0800299000 for Kampala Metropolitan Area, 0800300043 for Masaka, 0800355411 for Kagadi all toll-free, 0800300046 for Jinja, and 0787437139 for Bunyangabu (not toll-free).
- Free alert SMS on 6767 starting with the ‘ALERT’ key word; Free alert SMS to U-report on 8500.
- Community should not fear people who have been discharged from the Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU) and returned home.
- SURVIVOR FOLLOW-UP: Clinic runs on Monday and Wednesday. Support those who have returned home to attend the clinics.

Uganda Declares Ebola Outbreak
This happened when a case managed at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH) in Mubende district was confirmed through testing at the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI). Case caused by the Sudan ebolavirus species. Uganda’s National Rapid Response Team had been on alert following suspicious deaths that had occurred in the district earlier in the month.

Situation update as of 24th November 2022 at 22:00 HRS
WHO and Uganda Ministry of Health Uganda Ebola Outbreak 2022 situation report: 141 Ebola cases in Uganda. Of those, 55 resulted in deaths. Among the infected were 19 health workers, with seven dying. It is further reported 55 confirmed cases died with 80 of those infected have recovered after treatment at Ebola Treatment Units.

Kenya Health Authorities Step Up Surveillance Following Reports Of The Spread Of The Ebola Virus Disease To Jinja
Jinja, Uganda is approximately 100 kilometers away from Busia, Kenya on the Kenya-Uganda border. Following the report, health authorities in Busia County Kenya, stepped up surveillance activities by mapping 64 crossing points along the border. They also sensitized the public to minimize movement across the border, and put in place public health measures such as banning of the movement of bodies from Uganda to Kenya. Busia county government has also put up an isolation center at Alupe Busia to host patients suspected to be infected with the Ebola virus. In addition, hospitals in the county have setup holding rooms for patients presenting with symptoms suggestive of Ebola virus disease.
