The moral and meaning of this Luhya proverb

This Luhya proverb can be about patience teaching us that we bloom at different times, which is a good thing, therefore we should not feel down when a peer takes off in career, marriage or any other aspect of life before us. It could also be used to calibrate overly competitive people. A good use of this proverb is in cases of intense sibling rivalry. For example it might happen that two sisters or two brothers are both ready to make a step in life, like get married or construct a family home. In such situations, which are common, if sibling rivalry is not tempered, it might happen that they both go for it at the same time. Such an approach may make it possible for schedules to clash or the family to be divided for little gain. To deal with such common situations of life, Luhya culture has it that the elder sibling always has the first right. If it happens that they are not ready, or their younger sibling is more ready, or are being pushed by unexpected circumstances then the younger is allowed to take the lead. But only with the blessings of their elder sibling.
