IEBC suspends the election for the MCA seat in South Gem ward rescheduled for December 8, 2022.
December 9, 2022 Otuom Polo wins hotly contested elections as an independent candidate getting 3,469 votes. In second place was the ODM candidate Mr Polycarp Wanga who garnered 3,353 votes. Mr Polycarp Wanga is a brother to the late Nick Maurice Wanga. Otuom Polo won the seat despite opposition from Siaya governor James Orengo, deputy governor William Oduol and ODM party hierarchy. This in part because the candidate who came second to in the April party primaries Geoffrey Goganyo, and the incumbent MCA David Audi, who had initially sought to defend his seat on a UDM party ticket, joined forces to back Otuom Polo’s bid as an independent candidate.
