    William Ruto’s Take Over of UDM Thwarted After Registrar Of Political Parties Bars Registration Of New Officials #

    Eldoret North MP William Ruto’s United Republican Party was denied registration by the ORPP as one of its officials is a public officer. Former speaker of the national assembly, Francis Ole Kaparo the National Environment Management Agency chairman, had been listed among its interim officials.

    William Ruto was then considered the leader of rebel ODM MPs who intended to use UDM as a political platform in the 2012 General Elections.

    Phillip Kipchirchir Murgor Unveiled As UDM Party’s Candidate For Presidency In Kenya’s 2017 General Elections #

    City prominent lawyer and Kenya’s former Director of Public Prosecutions Philip Murgor was unveiled as UDM’s presidential candidate for the August 2017 General Election. He ran on an anticorruption platform and offered himself as an antidote and unifying candidate who offered an alternative to what he termed as polarizing ethnic politics of the leading political formations of the day NASA and Jubilee.

    Mandera Governor Ali Roba acquires UDM party #

    Governor Ali Roba acquired the party from General (Rtd) John Koech Cherotich, his chief-of-staff David Ohito was announced UDM secretary-general.

    UDM Quits Azimio Joins Kenya Kwanza #

    Outgoing Mandera County Governor Ali Roba led party members in ditching Raila Odinga‘s Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Party to join President-elect William Ruto‘s Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

    2022 Elections Performance #

    Emerging as the party of the Kenyan North, United Democratic Movement (UDM) of Mandera Senator, Ali Roba romped in as the second-largest party in Kenya Kwanza Alliance of President Ruto. In the 2022 Kenya General Elections UDM had eight MPs in the national assembly, two Senators and two governors elected on its ticket – Garissa County Governor Nathif Adan Jama and Mandera County Governor Mohamed Khalif. It also had two speakers in the county assemblies and 75 MCAs.
