The organizers of the Athletics Kenya sanctioned\, internationally recognized IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federation) calendar listed event\, captures the magic of the one of a kind marathon in glorious detail: \n\n\n\nThe Kakamega Forest Marathon follows a breath-taking route through the heart of Kakamega Forest which is considered to be the easternmost outlier of the Guinea-Congolian forest that is spread across Angola\, Cameroon\, Central African Republic\, Democratic Republic of the Congo\, Republic of the Congo\, Burundi\, Rwanda\, Tanzania and Zambia. Runners will share the route with a remarkable diversity of butterflies\, endemic plants\, birds and insects not found anywhere else in the country.
